Lenders
and credit history
Whilst creditors want to get their money back,
they must by law be reasonable when chasing you for money. One
sign of a loan gone bad is a personal visit by debt collectors
working on behalf of the creditor.
Debt
Collectors
These unwelcome guests on your doorstep are
only doing their job, but they must also respect a raft of legal
guidelines and laws. These guidelines are in place to protect
you the consumer from aggressive creditors and draw a firm line
as to what debt collectors can and cannot do. Remember, ultimately,
owing money on a correctly issued credit debt and failing to
pay it back is *not* in itself a criminal offence, and so you
cannot go to jail or be arrested for it directly. (Interestingly
in many other countries you can, but not in the UK!)
