Credit History and debt collectors

Lenders and credit history
Whilst creditors want to get their money back, they must by law be reasonable when chasing you for money. One sign of a loan gone bad is a personal visit by debt collectors working on behalf of the creditor.

Debt Collectors
These unwelcome guests on your doorstep are only doing their job, but they must also respect a raft of legal guidelines and laws. These guidelines are in place to protect you the consumer from aggressive creditors and draw a firm line as to what debt collectors can and cannot do. Remember, ultimately, owing money on a correctly issued credit debt and failing to pay it back is *not* in itself a criminal offence, and so you cannot go to jail or be arrested for it directly. (Interestingly in many other countries you can, but not in the UK!)
